לנשום
"אדם ללא נשימה נכונה אינו אלא גולם אדמה חסר חיים" מתוך רצון להבהיר את חשיבות הנשימה, פותח כך סאלוארג'אן ייסודיאן את אחד הפרקים הראשונים בספרו "יוגה ובריאות". במרבית ספרי היוגה, כמו גם אצלנו בשיעורים, הנשימה היא הדבר הראשון איתו מתחילים. כשם שסאלוארג'אן מציין בתוקף, ללא הנשימה, הערך של מה שאנחנו עושות בתרגול ובכלל פוחת דרמטית. אנו נושמות בצורה נכונה ומלאה לעתים רחוקות מדי. קצב החיים המערבי מכתיב לנו עומס רב, ומעברים מהירים בין פעולות מגוונות ובכך למעשה מזמין נשימה שטוחה וקצרה.
